WATERTOWN Going home always tastes good.

There's hamburgers with fried onions from Zwieg's Grill, chocolate malts at Mullen's Dairy Bar and sausage and mushroom pizzas from Emil's.

On Saturday, there were brats at the airport.

That's where the inaugural World's Best Brat Competition was held. It drew only 11 brat makers but the potential for this event is immense. We live in an area where sausage is a staple and chopped onions and sauerkraut a regular place holder in the fridge. Thousands of the tubers will be downed before noon Sunday outside of Lambeau Field and the leftovers eaten cold after the game.

Wisconsin is also home to dozens of meat markets that make their own brats.

"I think it's a passion that's built right into Wisconsin," said Jamie Cline, sausage maker for Trig's Smokehouse in Rhinelander. "It's just like the beer, Packers and cheese."
Major news in the World of Bratwurst
Everyone seems to have an opinion on how a bratwurst should be treated -- bathed in an onion beer bath and then grilled; parboiled, or just tossed on the grill and cooked as God intended.

But what bratwurst is truly the best? The title of World's Best Bratwurst is at stake at a sausage smack-down Saturday in Watertown.
